We go step by step to learn and to reach individual goals. This is excellent for achievement-oriented students who wish to excel at a fast pace in something they really love, or for students who feel they aren’t learning fast enough but are afraid to ask their teachers questions or ask for extra help in front of their peers. Adult students may find it difficult to find outlets for their interests. Individual instruction allows for total focus on students and their needs.
Group classes may be less expensive, but private tutoring offers a concentrated block of students' time and an uninterrupted focus. This leads to faster learning for serious students: A valuable investment!
While I was studying for my undergraduate degree, my UW-Wisconsin English professor nominated me to tutor writing students. My first student was a young man who had a D in his Intro class and was on the edge of failing. We both were amazed to see his progress after just a few weeks of concentrated effort. He quickly opened up to writing, and his style, expression, and marks rapidly improved. At one point he told me that he was scared in a large class setting. He felt embarrassed to ask questions in front of his peers. He felt that too much talking, arguing, and other distractions got in the way of his concentration during the class. He went from wanting to give up on college because he knew he was about to fail a class he needed for graduation, to believing in and achieving the best of his ability.
